Ebook Sticker Shock
One thing I love about the indie side of the writing life (I’m a hybrid author, meaning I publish traditionally and independently, at least for now), is control over the pricing of my eBooks.
I have one publisher (they’re very nice people so this isn’t a personal knock), who is charging more than $10 for the eBook version (I actually stand corrected on this albeit for a limited time since it’s on special this month for $1.99). This is absolutely insane because out of 9K subscribers on my list, I don’t think any of them are going to be handing out ten bucks for an eBook.
Why do publishers overcharge for eBooks?
So that you buy the hardcover and/or trade paper version.
That’s insane since so many people are now reading right over their phones.
But try to convince traditional publishers of this. They will just shake their heads and tell you they know what they’re doing. Let give you a little truth here since this is what this newsletter (and YouTube channel of the same name) is all about: traditional publishers don’t know shit.
If you want total control over your publishing life and career, and if you wish to make a living from it, go indie.
