Not Every Deal is Good Deal! D'uh!
Thanks Captain Obvious. Not every deal is a good deal. That little tidbit of knowledge should be preprogramed into one’s brain.
BTW, we’re back to taking the PW article to task about the ten things authors might not realize about publishing in 2021.
To be honest, unless a publisher is willing to give you $500,000 to $1million for a single book, and limit the amount of time they hold the rights to say 5 years and allow you to keep all digital and audio rights, and promise to market you 24/7, there really is no book deal that’s favorable to a genre fiction author.
Full stop.
But Vince, why do you keep selling books to traditional pubs while also publishing indie?
It’s for two reasons. I like the trade reviews which I can keep forever. I also like the movie/TV producers who are constantly hunting me down. Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother with the pubs at all.
Indie books can, in theory, get sold to movies, but it’s a lot harder. It has happened however, more than once. Andy Weir’s, The Martian, comes to mind.
So once again, I more or less prove how silly this PW article is.
Think I’ll talk about it now on my YouTube Channel, The Writer’s Life.
