For what seemed like a full minute, I just stared at the telephone screen. The lock-screen wallpaper was a selfie of Marty and I’d snapped at Lanies Bar a few weeks back. She’s wearing an orange pullover and with her shoulder-length hair parted over her left eye. We’re both smiling, and I’ve got my arm around her. We’re happy as hell. The perfect couple. I’m wearing a baseball cap with the words Mill Valley on the brim under a red star.
