My backpack breaks my fall. I just hope I didn’t crush my laptop in the process. My laptop is my life’s blood. Soon, I’ll be free from Juarez, and free from this city. I’ll find a car of my own that will take me north on the highway to Canada. I’ll drive towards one of the Great Lakes and cross the border at one of the Indian reservations. For maybe five hundred bucks, they will allow me access. No one will know the difference.

From there, I can look at changing my name and my identity. Shit, maybe I can find someone who’s willing to perform some cosmetic surgery on me. Hope springs eternal. So does death.
